Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod Assembly

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Synod Assembly will gather at Spring Rock Lodge May 29 to 31. The main business of the assembly will be to elect a synodical bishop who will succeed Bishop David Strobel who has announced that he will not seek a new term. Election of a Bishop is by ecclestical ballot. On the first ballot any ordained pastor of the ELCA can be nominated and 75% is required for election. Subsequent ballots limit the number of candidates until election of a bishop, usually on the 5th ballot. Hold the voting members of the assembly in your prayers as they make this important decision. Attending from St. John’s will include: Cindy & Bob Harris, Diane & Bob McElwee and Oscar Smith. Sister Millicent, Pastor Angstadt and Pastor Pearson will attend as well.

ACS Relay for Life of Boyertown
Friday, June 27 & Saturday, June 28 noon to noon

The American cancer Society’s 24 hour Relay for Life is a unique, fun way to increase cancer awareness in the area, while raising money for the American Cancer Society. Often teams are formed to rally in support of a co-worker or a loved one who is fighting or has lost the battle with cancer. Relay is a time of healing.

Victory Lap Saturday, 10:00 a.m.
is walked by cancer survivors and their caregivers.

Luminaria Ceremony Saturday 9:00 p.m.
is a most sacred event. Bagged votives are purchased weeks prior to relay. The votives burn throughout the night in honor of survivors, and in memorial of those who lost their battle.
