Leaver Scholarship Applications

St. John’s is offering scholarships for the 2013-2014 school year through the Warren and Lizzie Leaver Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Applicants must be full-time students pursuing a post-secondary course of studies.  They are provided for tuition expenses only for the first four years of post-secondary school.  This scholarship is not for graduate study except for the full-time study of Christian Ministry.  To be considered, applications must be completed and returned to the church office by May 31, 2013.  Applications including eligibility requirements may be picked up from the reception desk outside the church office.  Please complete and return The Scholarship Application Log when taking an application.  If you have any questions, contact Linda Rohrbach at 610.367.7535.

Fellowship Sunday

The Fellowship Committee has made a few changes recently to get more members to enjoy fellowship together by adding Fellowship Sundays once a month.  We have been so pleased with the turnout.  So many of you join us in the Fellowship Hall for brunch.  Thank you!  We will be continuing on the third Sunday of  May (19th).  So many of you have offered to bake for us, we are now adding a sign-up sheet placed in the Parish House hallway.  We have decided not to have Mother’s Day and Father’s Day brunches this year since we have them monthly right now and we will not be having them June-August.  Look for September, October and November Fellowship Sunday dates in the August/September addition of the Eagle Messenger.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for one or two volunteers to deliver baked goods from Giant Supermarket on alternate Thursdays.  These items are used for St. John's Youth Club; but now that Youth Club has come to a conclusion, we would like to continue this ministry within our community (Opportunity House, an outreach center in Reading on a rotating basis until September 12).  Please contact Donna Smith at the Church Office.

Volleyball Opportunities

The Youth and Family Ministry Committee would like to extend the opportunity to play volleyball as a TGIF special event.  Additional dates for a volleyball game are Sunday, May 19 and June 2 (all games begin at 6 pm in the Church parking lot).  Youth and Family is organizing a Volleyball Tournament between the young people of our current and former Confirmation Classes during the Church Picnic at the Boyertown Park on Sunday, June 9.

WELCA Covered Dish

A Family Covered Dish Supper will be sponsored by the St. John's Women of the ELCA on Monday evening, June 3 at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall of St. John's. Following the meal, Karl Stauffer will entertain us by leading us in games of Trivia about Boyertown and other topics.  Please plan to bring an entree, salad, or dessert and join us for a fun-filled evening! This will be our last get-together until meetings of WELCA resume in September.  Please remember that every woman of St. John's is considered a member of WELCA!  We would love to see you and your family that evening!
